The Choice Before the Tree

Buddha is often portrayed as a religious figure, a pure spiritual being. I wanted to paint Buddha as a young, beautiful human man. Across the river lies his wife and child and the fires of home. The leaves of the bodhi tree are blowing back across the water to tell them of his choice. You do not make the choice only one time and it is finished. Every minute of every day, you are choosing who you are becoming.
